Ripple is helping third-party coders by making it easier for them to send/receive payments via its new Xpring Developer Platform, which the company has dubbed it as the ‘open developer platform for money’.

As reported by Finextra, the platform would allow the developers to build new products on the XRP Ledger by means of Interledger Protocol (ILP) as a bridge to any currency, fiat, or blockchain.

Ripple explains: “Payments today are broken. They can take days to arrive and operate in a maze of siloed networks. This is because traditional payment rails were not built to meet today’s business and consumer demands for reliable, fast, convenient, and low-cost payments. The time for change is now. In the same way the Internet unlocked economic growth through democratisation of information, the Internet of Value will unlock economic value through global access and digitisation of money.”

According to the cryptocurrency platform, the Xpring SDK will support developers with the tools and technology to move money instantly across a range of industries and use cases, from banking and financial services to micropayments, web monetisation, and gaming.

In March, Ripple’s Xpring and blockchain gaming startup Forte formed a $100m (£81m) fund to support game developers. In August, Ripple announced the expansion of University Blockchain Research Initiative’s (UBRI) presence to Japan by adding new partners – including Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo. With this addition, the UBRI enterprise now backs 33 university partners to expedite academic research, technical development, and innovation in blockchain technology, crypto assets, and digital payments.
