Facebook’s push towards blockchain and cryptocurrency is continuing at a rapid pace, if the Menlo Park firm’s jobs board is to be believed.

As first reported by TNW, there are no fewer than 22 jobs up for grabs in the company’s blockchain division, including a lead commercial counsel, finance analyst, and data scientist. The other roles available are predominantly based around business development, engineering and product management, and security; a threat investigator and security engineer for threat detection and response are wanted.

As can be expected, many of the roles are looking for experienced staff in their chosen disciplines with blockchain expertise and experience more of a nice-to-have. Of most interest arguably are the couple of regulatory positions on offer. Facebook is looking for a director of technical accounting and SEC reporting, with the team “play[ing] a key role by determining technical accounting and SEC reporting implications with disruptive technology and initiatives including infrastructure and connectivity, blockchain, derivatives, leases, and new products.”

A month ago, The New York Times reported that Facebook was, alongside Telegram, Signal and others, ‘planning to roll out new cryptocurrencies over the next year… meant to allow users to send money to contacts on their messaging systems.’ The report added Facebook had assigned more than 50 engineers to work on the project.

In December, it was reported that Facebook had made its initial push towards hiring and scaling out a blockchain-focused team, with positions focused at the time around engineering. “The blockchain team is a startup within Facebook, with a vision to make blockchain technology work at Facebook scale,” the company said at the time. “It’s a small, fast-growing, but talented group of people who are passionate about changing the world.”
